Bell to Bell – How to Win at Winter

Whistler winters are no joke. If you plan to make it to the spring unscathed, you’re going to need to know how to crush a “bell to bell” day. Here’s how it’s done:

Balanced Breakfast

It all starts here. The key to keeping your stamina going is to fuel up in the morning. Stop by Brickworks to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before a big day on the mountains. We recommend the chicken & waffles or short rib hash to fuel you big day. If you’re a Whistler local, make sure to take advantage of our midweek breakfast special!

No Friends on Pow Days

If 20+ centimeters have fallen, forget everything we said about a leisurely breakfast! Make yourself some peanut butter and toast and hit the lift line before the crowds. And remember, friends don’t make friends wait on a powder day; real friends are right there beside you.

Timing is Key

We all know that lift lines in Whistler can be a real issue – but they don’t have to be. If you’re looking to crush maximum vertical in a day, midweek is always best. If you did as we suggested and ate a balanced breakfast, skip the lodges at lunchtime and head in around 2:00pm instead; this way you’ll score some quality laps while others are lunching. Or if you’re really dedicated, pack your backpack full of snacks and a lunch-to-go from Main Street Noodles.

Dress for Success

Mother Nature can be cruel in these parts so remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Layer up with base layers and make sure your gear is waterproof. There is nothing worse than having to call it quits early because of soggy clothing.

No, we’re not talking about caesars at Seppos (though, do that too!), we’re talking about treating your body to some grade ‘A’ H20. If you plan to make it until last call, make sure you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Plus, it’ll give you more staying power come après time.

Après Like a Champ

A true “bell to bell” day is never complete without a little après action. Head to Brickworks for Après Music every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon from 3-5pm, and if you’re a local, be sure to pick up a Locals Card for access to happy hour specials. Or, if you and your crew feel like fueling up on a budget, head to Three Below for their $20 wings and pitcher of beer deal!

Main Street Noodles: The Inside Scoop

The word is finally out – there’s a new kid in town and it happens to be a noodle joint. While many are still grieving the loss of Dups Burrito’s (RIP, Chief Burrito), we have our sights set on our expanding food choices here in Whistler. We sat down with the chef for Main Street Noodles, Steph Gagné (who also happens to be our head chef at Brickworks) to get the inside scoop on the new restaurant opening up in Whistler.

Tell me about the concept for Main Street Noodles – where did the idea come from, what was the inspiration?

The owners have had the concept in their minds for a few years now but they have been waiting on the perfect location to become available. They have always been big fans of Asian inspired cuisine and knew that we needed something like that in Whistler. When they heard this location was up for grabs, they knew it was meant to be. It’s a perfect fit for their grab & go concept.

What should we expect when MSN opens?

The average price point for a meal will be around $15. All of our dishes will begin as vegetarian options at around $10-13 and people can add protein such as beef, chicken, shrimp or tofu if they wish. We have a wide range of Asian-style dishes such as Shanghai, Kung Pow, Pad Thai, Peanut Sauce and Teriyaki. We’ve pretty much covered all of the bases. Customers will be able to find their regular go-to’s but also some unique creations.

Anything to report on the beverage front?

We will be licensed and serving bottled beer and cider.

Are you making many changes to the space?

The owners are planning a fresh new look. It will have a completely different feel and it’s going to be really cool once it’s finished. Stay tuned!

Any idea of when MSN will open?

Early November

Is there anything else you want to add?

As Whistler locals ourselves, we really wanted to give Whistler something that we don’t already have but also make it affordable. We’re very excited to open it up and get some feedback from our community.

5 Date Night Ideas for Every Stage of a Relationship

Whistler is known for many things; world-class skiing, unparalleled mountain biking, a stunning natural environment and romance. Ostensibly, people come to Whistler to participate in some form of outdoor recreation but sometimes their motivations are of a more primal nature. Relationships blossom in this town and are nurtured by romantic encounters set in beautiful surroundings. Here are a couple of tips for every stage of your next love affair.

Live Music

The music is smooth, mood-setting and, best of all, free. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, you can take out a different first date to The Brickworks Public House – get to know them while enjoying a few of the over 70 craft brews; or just sit back and let the local talent work their magic. See the upcoming lineup here.

Patio Drinks and Lake Hangs

If the first date was a success and you want to see them in the daylight to make sure it wasn’t all a dream, then meeting up for lunch/drinks on the new Brickworks patio is a solid choice. If the first date was a real success, going for breakfast on the patio works too. Head to any one of the many lakes in Whistler afterwards to bask in the sun, and each other.

Dinner and a Movie

If the summer fling is heating up and you’re looking for a quiet corner to get to know one another a little better but don’t want to break the bank in case things fizzle then dinner and a movie are just what the love doctor ordered. For $20, find out the most important details of a person: whether they share their fries and are into rom/coms with the Dinner and a Movie deal at Three Below.

Beer Pairing Dinners

Roughly once a month, which is about the frequency of ‘date night’ in a long-term relationship, The Brickworks Public House hosts a beer pairing dinner featuring a different craft brewery every time. It’s basically everything that’s good in the world; multiple courses, beer, and live music. Just a heads up, many a ‘date night’ have been extended to ‘date morning’ after a beer pairing dinner. The next one is June 28, but if you missed it, do not fear, you can find out when the next one is here.

Drink Specials

Sometimes things don’t work out. Good thing there’s $6.75 doubles, 4 shots for $14, 4 bombs for $20, or Kokanee and MGD bottles for $4.95 every day at Three Below.
